October 2007 Newsletter

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Hello, Granddaughters,

It has been my pleasure to serve you again as President of the Granddaughters Club of Ohio. I thank Sec/Treas. Joy Dingman for maintaining our treasury each year.

This letter is both a yearly report and a reminder to please continue to support us by sending your annual membership dues to Joy Dingman as soon as possible.

Yearly Dues are $3.00 (PER CLUB – in case you belong to more than one.)

Make check Payable To: “Granddaughters Club of Ohio” and mail it to Joy Dingman in the enclosed envelope. Please indicate the club(s) to which you belong on your check.

The Ohio Granddaughters Club continues to grow. Our 34 members include: 7 Granddaughters (increased by 2), 13 Great-Granddaughters (increase of 1) and 14 Great-Great Granddaughters (increased by 3). Welcome new Granddaughters, Ola Gee Boone and Mary Jo Taylor. Welcome new Great-Granddaughter, Charlene Mecklenburg, and welcome new Great-Great-Granddaughters, Diana Allison, Laura Brown and Arlene McCloskey!

With great sadness, I report the loss of a Real Granddaughter – Mrs. Viginia Wuenschel. She was 97 years young and a member of the UDC for 77 years!

Our Ohio Granddaughters Club sent donations to Beauvoir (home of Jefferson Davis) restoration in the amount of $50 and another $50 to the Museum of the Confederacy Memorial Hall Foundation (in New Orleans), both damaged by hurricane Katrina.

Last year, my newsletter proposed an increase in club dues from $2 to $3. All feedback was positive, therefore the $3 cost this year. Two dollars of this stays with Ohio and $1 goes to the respective “Club of “General” – and that dollar goes a long way! For example: At last year’s convention the Great-Great-Grandaughters donated over $4,000 earmarked for restorations and to provide assistance to the UDC Memorial Building.

The Great-Granddaughters Club donated $4,000 to eight projects in increments of $500. And as treasurer for the Granddaughters Club of General, I assure you - even with decreased membership each year – we still donated $500 to the” Museum of the Confederacy” earmarked for the “White House” in Richmond and $500 to the UDC Memorial Building Grounds and Maintenance Fund. This year the Granddaughters Club of General recognized our “oldest” and “youngest” real Granddaughters. Nancy Kelderhouse of the Roanoke #1907 Virginia Chapter is the “youngest” so far, born in 1967. Our “oldest” member is Ella Josephine Hudspeth of the Gayoso #2423 Chapter in Memphis TN – born in 1900. She will be 108 years young February 22, 2008!

The financial status of the Ohio Div. Granddaughters Club is as follows:

Dues received as of June 2007: $ 32.00

Treasury balance: $214.50

Currently available for donation: $164.50.

Membership Application forms and Pin Application forms for all three Clubs can be obtained from me or can be downloaded from the UDC General Website www.hqudc.org.

Thank you again for your support of our Ohio Granddaughters Club and the UDC!

Cathy Masarin
